"Women and the Automobile"
Alice Ramsey Centennial
Friday, June 12th & Saturday, Jun 13th
In 1909, Alice was the first woman to cross the U.S. by automobile. In June 2009, the trip will be re-enacted by Emily Anderson in a 1909 Maxwell. For historical information about Alice Ramsey and the tour, visit www.aliceramsey.org.
The Buffalo Transportation / Pierce-Arrow Museum celebrated the car’s visit to Buffalo on Friday, June 12, through Saturday, June 13th with special events including:
- A parade from Tupper down Main St. to One M&T where the crowd was entertained in an outdoor concert by "Ladies First Jazz Combo" with Peggy Farrell (www.ladiesfirstjazz.com)
- A luncheon at the Buffalo Transportation Museum and a museum tour by Jim & Mary Ann Sandoro. An update on the Frank Lloyd Wright Filling Station was presented by Patrick Mahoney.
- Guided bus tour of auto tourism sites in the Buffalo area – Pierce and Thomas Flyer plants, Forest Lawn, etc. Tours by Jim and Mary Ann Sandoro, Patrick Mahoney and Sandy Starks.
- The parade cars drove around the infield track of Coca Cola Field prior to the Bison's baseball game Friday night.
- On Saturday, the cars drove across the Niagara River on the Peace Bridge, drove along the scenic parkway on the west side of the river and stopped in Niagara Falls. They then drove on to Niagara-on-the-Lake. Display of the cars and a reception was held at Inniskillen Winery (www.inniskillen.com).

Also along on the trip are a crew from the Netherlands driving a Spyker. The Spyker participated in two Peking to Paris competitions. |
Saturday was a visit to Graycliff & then the cars were off towards Erie, PA. |
