About the Exhibit
In 1917, the Tri-Continental Corporation was founded by John R. Oishei in Buffalo, New York. In 1916, Mr. Oishei, while driving in the rain on Delaware Avenue is Buffalo, struck a bicyclist, which provoked him to find a way to clear windshields. The company introduced one of the first windshield wipers, known as Rain Rubber, for slotted, two-piece windshields found on many of the automobiles of the time. For 85 years, Trico was a major employer in Buffalo.
Leaving behind a physical legacy.
See clever, beautiful, colorful advertising and memorabilia displayed, including original artwork, posters, packaging, sales samples, and mementos. Former employees have donated factory badges, service pins, a Buffalo Sabres Trico award trophy, photos and more. Also on display is the 1967 Cougar XR7/GT 390 C.I., which was a gift from Henry Ford II to R.J. Oishei.
